Our verdict: kDrive (Infomaniak) is particularly relevant if you are looking for a collaborative cloud and a European alternative to the GAFAM, with a very competitive capacity subscription, especially with a commitment of 1, 2 or 3 years. For 3 TB in Solo at €4.99/month (1-year commitment, August 2026), or for teams (Team at €10/month, Pro from €6.66/user/month with a 1-year commitment), it clearly positions itself against traditional subscriptions. Hosting in Switzerland is not a search criterion for everyone, but it can matter for privacy, compliance, and a regulatory framework different from the American giants.
Who is it for? Freelancers, SMEs, and teams who want to sync, share, and collaborate (OnlyOffice documents) with French-speaking support. Infomaniak’s Swiss base is a plus if you are concerned about data localisation and regulation, but it is not a prerequisite to benefit from it. Less suitable if your absolute priority is a private encryption vault (also known as zero-knowledge encryption): kDrive does not yet offer a fully client-side encrypted vault. If you prefer a one-time payment / lifetime offer, consider pCloud or Internxt instead.
kDrive is part of Infomaniak, a comprehensive suite of cloud tools suitable for businesses, but also for individuals thanks to its ease of use and particularly competitive subscription rates.
It is a secure cloud service that aims to establish itself as a major European alternative to the GAFAM (Google, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, etc.) for online storage and collaboration. Unlike pCloud or Internxt, kDrive does not offer a lifetime plan: everything is subscription-based. In return, the monthly rates remain low for the capacity provided, especially with a commitment of 1, 2, or 3 years, making it a very attractive option if you do not want (or cannot) lock in a one-time payment. Fully Swiss service, kDrive focuses on security and privacy: Infomaniak states that it does not consult or analyse the entrusted data, a different approach from that of the American giants Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud or OneDrive.

Daily Use (apps, sync, Lite Sync)
The kDrive interface is both visually pleasing and simple to use, whether through the website or the multiple applications. It is also worth noting that it is translated into French.
Moreover, the coverage of systems by kDrive is very comprehensive. There are applications for the operating systems Windows, Mac, and Linux, as well as for Android and iOS regarding mobile systems.
The synchronisation features of kDrive are comprehensive and similar to those found with competitors. If you have ever used cloud storage for your files, such as pCloud, Google Drive, or Dropbox for example, you will find the same features:
- You can select certain folders from your hard drive to be automatically synced with your cloud space. It is possible to select multiple folders.
- In your file explorer, you can right-click on a synced file to access some tools, for example to copy the link to one of your files for easy sharing.
Lite Sync to save space on your hard drive
On the Windows and macOS desktop applications, kDrive offers Lite Sync: your files remain visible in the explorer but are stored “dehydrated” on the disk; they are only downloaded when you open them. This frees up local space while keeping the directory structure accessible. The option can be enabled at installation or later in the kDrive settings. By right-clicking, you can mark a file or folder as “Always keep on this device” or “Free up space”. Lite Sync is not available on Linux (Infomaniak recommends the native kDrive application on each system). See the Lite Sync documentation.
This feature is comparable to the virtual drive offered by other clouds: files appear in the explorer with a status icon (online, always available, etc.) depending on whether they are actually present on the disk or not.
File versions and history
To protect your synced files from potential handling errors, let’s look at the features related to file versions and their deletion. In this area, kDrive offers all the necessary tools to prevent or fix accidents.
All kDrive plans provide a trash bin to restore previously deleted files. Additionally, previous versions of your files are kept to allow you to go back in time in case of issues.
The number and duration of file version retention vary from one plan to another, ranging from 30 days or 30 versions for the free kDrive storage, up to 120 days (4 months) or 100 versions for the most advanced paid Pro offer. kDrive Support for WebDAV
kDrive supports the WebDAV protocol to connect third-party tools (Windows network drive mapping, Cyberduck, RaiDrive, etc.). This is not a paid option in itself, but WebDAV is unavailable on the free offers my kSuite, kSuite Free, and kSuite Standard; a paid kDrive plan (Solo, Team, or Pro) is required.
Infomaniak presents it as a one-off or specific use: for daily work, sharing, and synchronisation, the kDrive application is still recommended; support does not cover the configuration of external software. See the Infomaniak WebDAV documentation.
File Sharing
Regarding file sharing, the features covered by kDrive are quite comprehensive. It will naturally be possible to share files or folders, and to control sharing in both cases with the following options:
- Choose whether the sharing is intended for a well-defined subset of people (by their email addresses), or if everyone with the sharing link can access the shared files.
- Choose the permissions granted to people accessing the shared files: can they only read these files, or can they also modify them?
- It is also possible (on paid plans only) to set a sharing deadline (after which the files will no longer be accessible) or a password to protect access. These options are effective for securing data sharing, for example in the context of sharing with clients.
It is regrettable that some features are only available in plans dedicated to teams and businesses. Creating a cloud storage space is one of them. It involves generating a link to a folder in your kDrive space. The people you send this link to will then be able to upload files to your cloud space. In a professional context, in a business, this is a very useful feature. For example, you could offer your clients or partners to send you large files securely and very conveniently.
Customising share links to match company colours
Always with the aim of providing a service tailored to businesses, Infomaniak and kDrive allow you to customise your sharing links to match your company’s colours. You can set a background colour or image, as well as a logo. Nothing extravagant, but it is still a good idea to professionalise your company’s sharing links.
Security and Privacy
Data security stored at kDrive
Cloud data security has multiple facets: Are the data protected and encrypted in case of a hack of kDrive’s servers? What happens in the event of the destruction of the physical servers storing the data (for example, like the fire that occurred at OVH)?
On these issues, kDrive has very satisfactory answers. The data stored on Infomaniak’s servers is systematically encrypted to prevent access by third parties.
The data is stored replicated across 3 different media, and in 2 different physical data centres. This provides additional protection against server destruction due to a natural disaster, for example.
Privacy Protection
For privacy, Infomaniak emphasises its transparent privacy policy and the fact that data is not accessed and analysed by Infomaniak. Furthermore, as the structure is sovereign, fully developed and stored in Switzerland, the data does not leave the scope of Infomaniak.
kDrive presents itself as an alternative to the GAFAM by highlighting respect for privacy. However, it should be clear: kDrive does not (yet) offer a private encryption vault (also known as zero-knowledge encryption) where the key would remain solely in your hands. The data is encrypted on Infomaniak’s servers, which protects against third-party access to the disks, but this is not equivalent to a vault that the provider could technically not read the content of. Why is kDrive suitable as professional online storage?
kDrive subscription types: a lot of flexibility
On all paid plans of kDrive, we appreciate the flexibility provided by the available billing options: from a monthly subscription with no commitment, to commitment periods of 1, 2 or 3 years that allow for lower rates.
Once again, this is a good point in a professional setting, where it is often pleasant to be able to extend over the medium/long term to take advantage of favourable rates.
Flexibility extends to the plans for teams, kDrive Team and Pro, with the ability to scale online storage up to very large cloud sizes (18 TB for Team, 106 TB for Pro).
Collaborative work with the integrated office suite
In order to be a credible alternative to Google Drive or other clouds, kDrive integrates OnlyOffice to create and co-edit online documents compatible with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (docx, xlsx, pptx, etc.). We verified in August 2026: online editing works well from the Solo offer.
These files can be viewed, edited, and shared in kDrive; they remain readable in Microsoft Office if your collaborators do not have an Infomaniak account. On the Pro plan, editing via Microsoft Office Online is added to OnlyOffice, which we also confirmed in August 2026; this is useful for teams already embedded in the Microsoft ecosystem.
Support in French via chat, phone, email
Unlike many competitors outside of the GAFAM, it is possible with kDrive to access support in French.

The right question is: who is online storage kDrive best suited for? Let’s take a look at the aspects that will interest different types of users.
Benefits of kDrive for Individuals
If you are an individual, using kDrive has some advantages that might persuade you.
First of all, the subscriptions remain very competitive: Solo at 3 TB for 4.99 €/month (1 year commitment), down to 4.43 €/month with a 3 year commitment, without a lifetime offer.
Individuals, like businesses, can also appreciate that kDrive is a service fully based and managed in Europe. It is referred to as “sovereign cloud” because data is never transferred or entrusted to other entities (notably the GAFAM).
Moreover, the fact that support and interfaces are available in French is unfortunately a rare quality, as soon as you move away from the realm of the web giants. Here, everything is accessible in French.
Benefits of kDrive for Businesses
Alternative to GAFAM for businesses
Companies and teams looking for professional cloud storage, or for those who want a complete cloud tool without necessarily opting for the American GAFAM. Infomaniak is a Swiss “sovereign cloud,” with data stored solely on their own servers. This will reassure and simplify the lives of companies that do not wish to entrust their data to American companies, due to potential legal or privacy issues that this could entail.
A complete cloud solution with the Infomaniak ecosystem
Online storage is generally just one aspect of companies’ needs in terms of cloud services. Infomaniak, which created kDrive, offers a whole range of cloud services. Backup management, NAS, emails or video conferencing, calendars, contacts, …, all these tools are offered through other Infomaniak services. A company may prefer to centralise these services with a main partner, rather than having many different intermediaries. In this case, Infomaniak has the necessary strengths to be that cloud partner.
kDrive Pricing
As for individuals, this is a very attractive aspect of kDrive. Indeed, the subscription prices, whether for individuals or for teams of users, are particularly low. The competition is often twice as expensive for similar features.
Support and documentation in French
The support in French, available by phone, email, and chat, is another advantage that not many competitors have.
No (private encryption) vault yet
The main barrier for some profiles remains the absence of a private encryption vault: kDrive does not currently offer a vault where you alone hold the key. Therefore, it is not strictly a zero-knowledge encryption. If your most sensitive files require this level, consider turning to a competitor that offers it natively or as an option (see our pCloud review).
Verdict 2026: kDrive by Infomaniak remains an excellent choice for collaboration and teams / SMEs, with a very competitive capacity subscription: Solo 3 TB at €4.99 (1 year), €4.71 (2 years) or €4.43/month (3 years, August 2026). Swiss hosting is a point of privacy / compliance, not a “Swiss product” to be sought for its own sake. It is not the best candidate if you want a lifetime offer or a vault with complete private encryption.
