What to choose between pCloud and Icedrive?

You’ll notice that Icedrive’s lifetime offers are cheaper overall. This is particularly true of the 10TB storage space, which for this Black Friday is €890 with pCloud, compared with just €749 with Icedrive, a difference of €141!

What’s more, if you need confidentiality for your personal data, the “Crypto” option lets you store files in a digital safe that only you can access (even pCloud and Icedrive won’t be able to read these files, for total confidentiality). What is lifetime cloud storage?

If you’re not familiar with them, you should know that Lifetime plans (or pCloud Lifetime) are a highly economical original feature of pCloud. They allow you to purchase online storage space, paid for in a single payment, which you can then use for life. This is radically different from the classic subscriptions (monthly or annual) offered by the competition, which are generally more expensive over time.

This offer is already very attractive (see our review of pCloud Lifetime), so the Black Friday promotion makes it a real bargain.

The main advantage of lifetime cloud storage offers is that they are very economical over the long term. Indeed, if you’re looking for cloud storage for several years, then a lifetime purchase will save you money compared to a traditional subscription that you’ll pay every year, or even every month.

We’ll take a closer look at these savings below.

Huge savings compared with a conventional subscription

To understand just how incredible these promotions are, we need to know what they represent in terms of long-term savings, compared with the same online storage paid for with a conventional subscription.

For the 2TB offer, a “traditional” annual subscription costs €99.99 per year with pCloud. Other online storage services all have similar or higher prices.

As a result, the €279 initial purchase price for lifetime storage (thanks to Black Friday) corresponds to less than 3 years’ subscription! In other words, you’ll already have amortized your purchase after just 3 years of use. And after that, you’ll enjoy €99.99 extra savings per year compared with someone who would have an annual subscription.

That’s an absolutely enormous saving, which then increases every year:

Note that to enjoy your cloud storage space for many years to come, you’ll need to think carefully about how much storage space you’ll need in the future. For example, 500 GB may not be enough for some users, depending on their current and future personal needs.

Why is now a good time to sign up for lifetime cloud storage?

The current prices offered by pCloud and Icedrive for their lifetime offers can be considered extremely low, especially with these Black Friday promotions. From pCloud’s and Icedrive’s point of view, these offers are probably economically unprofitable, but they enable them to attract new customers to maintain a good position in a highly competitive field.
